Brescia

Old Cathedral

Brescia is the second largest city of region Lombardy in northern Italy. It is an important financial center of the region after Milan. And like Milan Brescia is loud and noisy commercial and business city.

It is situated close to the Alps and the aria with picturesque Lake of Garda, Lake of Iseo. Lake Garda is the largest in Italy. It was formed after the last ace age period. The outstanding natural beauty of Lake of Iseo attracts tourists from all over the world.

There is several versions about foundation of Brescia. It was founded by Hercules, by fugitive from the battle for Troy or by the Etruscans. Ancient, middle ages and modern history of Brescia is full of events such as wars, occupations, uprisings, triumphs and invasion of different nations. That all greatly influenced on the cultural heritage of the city.

For example Town Hall on Piazza della Loggia is an architectural construction in Renaissance style witch is harmonious in a square of that period. It was built in 1492 by famous Italian architect.

La Rotonda or Duomo Vecchio is an old cathedral in rusticated Romanesque style. The outside and inside appearance was changed by several architectures and painters since 11th century.

Duomo Nuovo is a new cathedral was built since 1604 till 1825. The main attraction of it is the Arch of Sts. Apollonius and Filastrius. That is near than 500 years old. There are also another different buildings and constructions in Brescia that remind visitors of different historical periods.
