Venice![]() Venezia (Venice) is a city at northern coast of Italy. The most romantic city in Europe is also called "Queen of the Adriatic", "City of Canals" or "City of Water". Venice lies on the territory of 118 small islands, which are separated by 177 canals and connected with each other by about 400 bridges. The traditional Venetian boats are the gondolas. they are used only for excursion around some canals for tourists. The main kinds of transport are water buses or water taxi that are used by Venetians. There are also a plenty of private boats. Due to numerous waterways cars are not in use in Venice, that fact makes city Europe's largest urban car free area. The unique water arrangement is not the only one distinguishing feature of Venice. It is also well known home of notable people. The most remarkable of them is perhaps famous composer and violinist Antonio Vivaldi. The name of Marco Polo is well known by every pupil as the legendary explorer who first opened the trade way to China. Venice is a native city for Giacomo Casanova a world known ladies man and writer. Venice is one of the most visited cities in the world. It attracts lots of tourists by beautiful cityscape, rich musical and artistic cultural heritage, historical sights and buildings in Renaissance, Gothic, Baroque and Romanesque styles. Venice is also famous by its festivals among which is the most popular "Carnival of Venice". Traditionally carnival masks we used for hiding the identity and social status for freely interaction with other members of the society. Nowadays it different kinds of masks such as baut, moretta and larva are permanent from celebrating Carnival of Venice. |
