Verona![]() Verona is a city in Veneto region in the northern part of Italy. It is visited by tourists due to the magnificent artistic heritage connected with the name of William Shakespeare, the annual lyrical season in the Arena, the amphitheatre that remained from times of Roman Empire. Different fairs, vivid shows and opera plays every year take place in Verona. Juliet Capulet's villa, the bronze statue of Juliet that stands under the balcony and tomb of Romeo and Juliet are the one of main attractive places in Verona, especially for lovers who came from all over the world to see these symbols of eternal love. The city of Verona was founded near 5 century BC by the Euganei and then in 3 century BC it was under Roman control. The old buildings and structures in Verona reminds visitors about ancient history of this city. Most of them are in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Arena is famous Roman amphitheatre, the third largest after Rome's Colosseum and the arena at Capua. Shows and battles of gladiators were performed there. Among the other Roman monuments the Roman theatre is amazing one. It was build near 1 century BC. Two Roman bridges lead from the Roman theatre to the other bank of the river Ponte Pietra and the Pons Postumius. Porta Leoni the ruin if the city gates to Verina that also remains about that time. The original Roman foundations are buried under the ground of the street that leads from the gates to the heart of the city. Verona is also a city where lots of buildings of medieval and modern architecture are worth of seeing. |
