Lazio region

Lazio region is situated in central Italy. The capital of Lazio is Rome. The land of Lazio region has reach and interesting historical past. The Eternal City of Rome, famous resort Tivoli, the main center of medieval monks meetings Viterbo are the heritage of Lazio. Far and wide there are numerous ancient monuments of history, ruins of settlements, remains in burial places, temples, basilicae, columns, fora, palaces, aqueducts, walls and public baths of Greek, Roman and Etruscan civilizations.

Wonderful landscape of Lazio is charming, incredible and picturesque. The territory of Lazio is washed by the Tyrrhenian Sea. There are three groups of mountains of volcanic origin: the Volsini, Sabatini and Cimini. Craters of extinct volcanoes are occupied by the Bolsena, Vico and Bracciano lakes. Another mountains are the Alban Hills, Ausoni, Lepini and Aurunci Mountains. The Tiber, the Liri and the Sacco (the right tributary of the river Liri) are flowing through the Lazio.

Gaeta, Nettuno, San Felice Circeo, Terracina, Sabaudia, Anzio and other cities of Lazio are famous sea resorts with good recreational facilities. Mediterranean climate with abundance of sunny days, sea-coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea with sandy and rocky beaches, pellucid and warm sea-water are the best conditions for relaxation. Tourists often spend their holidays here and combine rest in the beach with excursions to Rome or other popular cities of Italy.
