Liguria

Sanroemo coast

Liguria is situated in the north-western coast of Italy. An important sea port and cultural city of Genova is the capital of this region. Liguria is the third small region of Italy that is situated between Ligurian Sea and Alps and the Apennines mountains.

Warm climate if Liguria is very suitable for tropical and sub-tropical gardens and exotic flora. "Riviera of Flowers" that is how called the Imperia province where flower-growing industry and huge flower markets are situated.

This region of Italy is attractive for tourists by its wonderful beach resorts. Alassio, San Remo, Bordighera and Ospedaletti are popular destinations on coasts line, that is also called Italian Riviera. This beach resorts become favourite placer for vocations of wealthy Europeans in 18th and 19th century. Britain's Queen Victoria, British and Russian aristocrats, Queen Margaret of Savoy, Alfred Nobel, Tchaikovsky, Monet, Bayron and Schiller are those famous people who admire Sanremo, Bordighera, Imperia and other resorts.

Nowadays the coast resorts of Liguria offer delicious dishes of Italian cuisine in numerous restaurants, various kinds of entertainment in bars, disco and bowling clubs, facilities for different kinds of sea and land sports from yachting, wind-surfing and diving to horse riding tennis and golf.

Liguria is also well known because of Genova. Plenty of museums, monuments of ancient history and medieval constructions and buildings in different architecture styles are situated there. Due to this fact Genova got status of cultural Capital of United European Countries in 2004.
